Our new 'baby' ROCKY

HA! So yes, Joshua finally got a dog for his birthday...meet Rocky. Creston and I went back and forth between, breeds, puppy vs. adult, rescued vs. from a breeder and here it is...Rocky is a rescued 8-yr. old Golden Retriever from the SPCA.

On Wednesday afternoon, Creston suggested we take Joshua and visit the city pound as well as SPCA 'just to see' how some of these dogs compared to the ones we were searching for through other organizations and breeders. The city pound was full of animals - we played with one of them, but he was too jumpy - not something I want being prego and all.

Next we headed to the SPCA -- We looked through the male side - um...nope. Then we headed to the female dog side. That's where we saw 'her' - happy but not overly excited or barking. We saw 'her' and liked her and 30 minutes later we're ready to load our new dog into the car.

So 'she' actually turned out to be a male that we named Rocky. He's well-mannered so far and doesn't give us any fits in the night. We know that we'll have to train him to trust us on a leash since he freezes when we put it on him. He must have had some leash issues in the past.

So our non-shedding mid/small young dog idea turned into the hairy, shedding, large dog Rocky. We're loving him so far.

Pee pee in the Potty!!

So we've been married for quite a while and all the while we've wanted a dog. We finally have the enclosed yard for a dog and promised Joshua his own doggie for his birthday. Creston searched diligently and we will be receiving a 5-month old Skye Terrier puppy into our home this week. Which leads me to my two main goals before our little girl Reese is born in June:
1- Potty train the new puppy;
2- Potty train Joshua.

So both of these goals will be quite a feat if we can accomplish them in the next 5 months - but it doesn't hurt to try- right? Well, Joshua showed us today that he may have a head start (hallelujah).

We've had a little potty for a few months and every once and a while Joshua will pretend to go potty before bath time. Well today - after Joshua's nap - he did it! Now, we haven't officially begun the 'potty training' crackdown, but he actually peed in his potty!! You should have seen the joyous jumping and cheering we were doing. Sort of funny that the last two days, Joshua's new words are "I do it" or "I did it" -- Oh, yes Joshua -- today you must assuredly did it and we couldn't be more happy for your proud little accomplishment.

Here's to hoping that this out=of-the-blue occurence will encourage him to continue down this path...we'll keep you posted. Oh, and any potty training tips you have are most appreciated :)

It was a Gymboree Birthday for sure!

Joshua just turned 2 and we celebrated with cushions (much needed) at Gymboree. He loved it! He was running, jumping, squealing, climbing, laughing, smiling and best of all - sharing his fun with all of his buddies. We love this little bundle of energy! Now on to the terrible (or not so terrible?) twos...

December Fun in 2008

The holidays were so fun with Joshua this year - he 'gets it.' He loved decorating the tree, taking treats to our friends and neighbors, the Christmas lights in the neighborhood (he'd beg, 'more, more' when driving home), the snow in Houston (what?), popping popcorn, making our gingerbread house (candy), listening to Christmas music, and reading about the nativity and Jesus and other Christmas stories. What a blessed time of year to reflect on all we've been given and share it with others! We also got to go home to Utah and enjoy our grandparents time and love. What fun!
